A deadline without consequences is just a wish.

You hit every deadline at work. Why don't you hit them on your own things? The system is different — not the person.

How it works

The simplest accountability system that actually works.

Four steps. About sixty seconds. No subscription. No coach. No streaks to lose.

  1. 01

    Set a deadline.

A goal you'd be proud to deliver + a date you'll actually defend.

  2. 02

    Put skin in the game.

Stake what makes the deadline real — anywhere from $25 up. Charged via Stripe at commit, fully refunded the moment you deliver.

  3. 03

    Deliver by the deadline.

Mark it done — optionally with a peer reviewer who confirms.

  4. 04

Get your money back. Or don't.

Deliver: full refund. Miss: it goes to a cause you chose.

The proof

Loss hurts about 2× more than gain feels good.

Behavioral economists like Daniel Kahneman & Amos Tversky proved it decades ago: people work harder to avoid losses than to chase rewards. Gym memberships, savings apps, and even food delivery platforms quietly rely on the same principle. Proficio applies that same behavioral insight to personal deadlines and solo projects.

Where the money goes

Four causes. All vetted. All global.

Miss your deadline and your stake is donated to one of these. We picked organizations that are recognized worldwide, independently audited, and known for delivering real impact.

  • Education

    UNICEF

    For every child, education.

The most universally trusted children's organization on the planet. When you forfeit, your stake helps a child stay in school.

  • Health

    Against Malaria Foundation

One bed net at a time.

GiveWell's #1 ranked charity for cost-effectiveness. Every dollar visibly moves the needle — your missed deadline saves real lives.

  • Humanitarian

    Save the Children

A century of saving the youngest lives.

A trusted, century-old humanitarian institution with the emotional weight that matters when a deadline slips.

  • Environment

    World Wildlife Fund

    Protecting the planet's wild places.

The most recognized conservation organization in the world. Your forfeited stake protects wild places that can't protect themselves.

Why this costs money

“Wait — isn't there a free version of this?”

There is. And there's a reason it's free.

Most commitment platforms make their money when you fail — your forfeited stake funds their operation. Which means every reminder they send, every nudge before the deadline, every “you've got this!” email exists inside a system where your failure pays their bills.

Proficio works the other way around. You pay the 7.5% platform fee at commit, and that's the only money we ever collect from your deadline. Deliver: $7.50 on a $100 stake. Miss: $7.50 on a $100 stake. Same number. Always.

What it looks like in practice

  • Stake $25 → pay $27.50. Deliver: get $25 back. Miss: $25 to your cause.
  • Stake $100 → pay $107.50. Deliver: get $100 back. Miss: $100 to your cause.
  • Stake $500 → pay $537.50. Deliver: get $500 back. Miss: $500 to your cause.

Questions

Honest answers to common questions

Proficio runs on Stripe, which charges roughly 3% for domestic cards and 4–5% for international cards. Since most of our users are international, our real card-processing cost averages around 3.5–4% of each transaction. The remaining ~3.5–4% covers infrastructure, email, support, and the engineering behind every deadline. We never take a cut of forfeitures — only the platform fee at commit. This is by design: the only way to guarantee we're aligned with your success is to make our revenue independent of your outcome.
Stripe charges a fixed cost (~30¢) on every transaction regardless of size, plus a percentage on top. On a $25 stake, a pure 7.5% fee comes to just $1.88 — most of which goes straight to Stripe, leaving almost nothing to actually run the platform. The $2.50 minimum keeps small stakes sustainable for us without making them expensive for you. On any stake of $34 or higher, the 7.5% rate applies straight through.
Yes — after your first deadline. New users can stake up to $500 per commitment. Once you've been through one full deadline — delivered or missed — the ceiling lifts and you can stake whatever amount makes the next deadline real for you. We do this because larger stakes work best for people who've actually felt how the system lands, and because it keeps Proficio safe for everyone — including users who might commit a number they'd regret in a calmer moment. One round through the cycle is the unlock.
Every deadline has a 24-hour grace period after the cutoff. After that, the stake is auto-donated to your chosen cause.
Refunds are designed to be reliable and transparent. Every commitment is tracked end-to-end, and if something ever goes wrong with a refund, our team steps in to resolve it manually.
You pick a cause bucket (Health, Climate, Education, etc.) when you commit. Each bucket maps to a real registered charity, and the choice is frozen at commit-time so we can't swap it on you. Donations are batched and submitted to the charity within days of forfeiture.
Technically, yes. In practice, most people don't — the platform fee is already sunk, and the optional peer reviewer adds a layer of social accountability that makes gaming the system uncomfortable. Proficio is designed for people who genuinely want accountability, not loopholes.
